Burson Audio has been building fully discrete Class-A headphone amplifiers in Melbourne since 1996, and has a devoted following among serious headphone listeners for good reason. Every Burson runs its own discrete op-amps rather than off-the-shelf chips, with in-house power supplies and a signal path designed to drive difficult headphones without strain.
The range is simple to read. Soloist models are analogue headphone amps and preamps; Conductor models add a built-in DAC. Both come in tiers — from the accessible Party and Stellar series through the GT4 to the flagship Voyager range, where the Soloist Voyager delivers 10W per channel of pure Class-A and the Conductor Voyager adds a reference DAC and full preamp functionality. Most models are offered in Standard, Deluxe and Max packages, and all of them can be upgraded later with Burson's V7 op-amps and Fusion Core power supply - a solid-state take on tube rolling.
Burson pairs particularly well with planar and high-impedance headphones that leave lesser amplifiers short of headroom. Hear them at the Nintronics showroom in Welwyn Garden City, or get in touch for advice on headphone matching and upgrade paths.
